We believe in coraopolis…

We believe in Coraopolis: its people, its businesses, and its tremendous assets. Situated near educational institutions, a major Interstate, highways, neighboring local destinations, recreational trails and greenspace, the power of our town to attract significant consumer traffic is great. We seek to stabilize food security and increase support for those in need, while enhancing and revitalizing the sidewalk business district to uplift and provide opportunity to residents and business owners.

As the “downtown” for the surrounding townships and neighborhoods, Coraopolis’s business district is one of the few remaining original main streets in Pittsburgh. Fostering partnerships with those who share our admiration for this community will create more visibility and consumer traffic, adding to the vitality of this special town.

In recent years, an interest in community revitalization has been brewing among Coraopolis Borough leaders, nonprofit organizations, business and property owners. The desire to work together to take Coraopolis into its next chapter through revitalization, neighborhood improvements and activities is stronger than ever.

This is a critical time in Coraopolis’ history with growing tourism on the horizon for the town. In summer 2019, large area insurers, Highmark and Allegheny Health Network, announced plans to partner with the Friends of Pittsburgh Professional Soccer (Pittsburgh Riverhounds) on a 78-acre sports and health complex in Coraopolis and Robinson Township. Tournaments at this location will bring anywhere from 5,000 to 12,000 additional people into Coraopolis during tournaments and events. Even on the lower end of this estimate, the influx of people will double the town’s population on any given day of the week.

The CCDC seeks to build upon the growing interest and energy around revitalization in Coraopolis by implementing a comprehensive community development strategy for 2020 and beyond that will serve as a catalyst for increased awareness, growth and prosperity for community members. The community development strategy will put Coraopolis in a position for equitable growth and includes three main pieces:

  1. Supporting and growing the Coraopolis Business District

  2. Establishing an Arts & Culture Initiative in downtown Coraopolis

  3. Implementing “Coraopolis Community Days”
